What coating to use? Ceramic or Glass Coating
Scratches and scratches in automotive paint is usually an everyday occurrence, but for some it is a big concern. Many people fear having their car scratched for a good reason and that is that a vehicle is a very expensive purchase and one wants to maintain it in the best possible way.
To protect the “skin” of the car, what is needed is a good protective layer to keep the surface smooth and shiny. One of those few types of paint protection coating that works well are: Glass Coating and Ceramic Coating. We have often been asked, what is the difference between the two?
Technical details
When people think of glass, they usually think of those transparent materials such as glasses, windows of buildings, houses and vehicles, however strictly speaking, the term glass describes a state of the material in which the particles of a material are arranged randomly. The definition of glass given by the ASTM (American Sectional Test of Materials, for its acronym in English), describes glass as an “inorganic, amorphous product of a mass that is quickly cooled”. With this definition it can be said that rapidly cooled metals are vitreous. Therefore, terms such as glassy, amorphous, vitreous have to describe a material with atomic structure arranged randomly.
THE REALLY TECHNICAL DETAILS
There are some structural differences between glass and ceramics at the atomic scale, although they may have the same composition. For example, silica glass has the same composition as quartz (crystallized silica). However, in the glass the atoms are dynamically arranged, while the silica crystals have a very ordered structure. It is possible to turn a glass into a ceramic, heating it. This allows a rearrangement of a random structure in an ordered and an ordered structure is more stable than a disordered structure.
So, what coating to choose?
In the ceramic coating, its compounds protect the vehicle against the weather, bird droppings, scratches, dust, spillage and other elements that ordinary wax usually cannot fix, as well as the durability that can be 6 months. A ceramic procedure requires heating to ensure that the joint has been completed. This is a technology from the 70’s.
In the glass coating (GLASS COATING), it adheres to the paint at the molecular level almost immediately after its application. This ensures that the automobile paint remains isolated against chemical attacks of all the polluting forms that exist in the environment. This leads us to prefer this form of protection due to its durability and ease of application. Contrary to the marketing myth, all linings have a shelf life and need to be reapplied.
So, how are they the same?
While each Paint Protection Coating has its own characteristics, there are many similarities that can be applied in all areas, regardless of the brand. GLASS COATING (glass coating) and CERAMIC COATING (ceramic coating) are the latest and most revolutionary way to protect automotive paint. Through the use of Nanotechnology, these coatings adhere to the surface creating an extremely durable and protective layer. These coatings separate the vehicle paint from the rough elements of the environment. Both types of coating really adhere to the paint, so they cannot be removed by ordinary means, for example, washing the car.
