Printable Version Written: 29/10/2007 : 10:36. Read 12088 times (8/day).
2007 season is not already over, but we already know, unless the KR team, all the 2008 MotoGP grid... A lot of moves were done, and four (maybe five) new riders will join the circus.

Last season, the only rookie was sylvain Guintoli, but during the season he was join by Anthony West, Kurtis Roberts and at last Chaz Davies.
2008 will see the arrival of four full time riders. First the double Superbike World Champion (only new comer from SBK) and also three young and ambitious riders from the traditional field (125c and 250cc), Jorge Lorenzo (double 250cc World Champion), Alex De Angelis, and at last Andrea Dovizoso.

Here is a little outline of the 2008 MotoGP Grid :

Ducati Marlboro (Bridgestone) :
Casey Stoner will be at his place to protect and keep his title on the team he was able to bring to supreme victory... Stoner stay on the « Desmoniac » Desmosedici and will be the team mate of Marco Melandri. After a season with Bridgestone on the Gresini onda to learn these tyres. The will have a season more to learn the Ducati.

Fiat Yamaha Team (Michelin et Bridgestone?) :
Valentino Rossi keep his 1st rider position in the team but lose his friend and best team mate Colin Ewards to be with the young Double 250cc world champion Jorge Lorenzo. The Doctor is also at the center of a controversial story about tyres and will be, maybe, supply by Bridgestone next season. But at this moment nothing is signed.

Honda Repsol (Michelin) :
Nothing change. Nicky Hayden will try to make forget the worst title defense of the history, but the « Kentucky Kid » has alot of resource and motivation.
Dani Pedrosa will try one more time, as he did in 2007 to fight for the title.

Suzuki Rizla+ (Bridgestone) :
Vermeulen signed for two more years with Suzuki after a positive 2007 season. He will be join in 2008 by the « old hand » Loris Capirossi. The former Ducati rider will be with Hamamatsu's manufacturer for one year (and more if it works).

Kawasaki Racing (Bridgestone) :
A top rider is coming to the Kawasaki Team, its John Hopkins. The combative and motivated rider will be in team with one of the revelation of the season, Anthony West.

Gresini (Hann Spree) Honda (Bridgestone):
The Hann Spree Ho,nda Team of Fausto Gresini will have for 2008 a whole new rider line up.
With the coming of the 250cc talent Alex De Angelis, Fausto Gresini will also welcome Shinya Nakano. The japanese rider will try to make amends of a 2007 season very disappointing.

Tech 3 Yamaha (Michelin) :
Tech 3 Yamaha Team will take two great riders for 2008, first and the one that everybody wait, James Toseland, double WSBK World Champion (2004 and 2007).
The briton will ride a Yamaha M1 with Michelin tyres as the french team stops his Dunlop collaboration.
His Team mate will be the former Yamaha official rider Colin Edwards. A great ride line u for the french team, the 2008 season could be their most beautiful...

Ducati D'Antin Pramac (Bridgestone) :
New rider line up also for Luis D'Antin.
After its difficult divorce with Alex Hofmann, the team will also let free Alex Barros.
The two riders called to renew the rider line up of the team will be Toni Elias, coming from Gresini after a disappointing season (and also a huge injurie).
His team mate will be the rookie of the year, Sylvain Guintoli. He could show what he can do with a difficult Yamaha/Dunlop package not very consistent. The french ride showed also a good motivation and a great ability to ride fast on difficult track conditions. He is now on the world champion package...

LCR Honda (Michelin) :
This is kind of thunder... Randy De Puniet decided to leave a factory team (Kawasaki) to ride with a private team. The Luccio Cecchinello racing team is not unknown from Randy De Puniet as he raced for them during his 250cc seasons. But the challenge is huge, new bike, new tyres... its a big part of unknown.

Montiron (Konica Minolta) Honda (Michelin) :
Shinya Nakano could not show him in 2007, so he will be replaced by a whole new comer in MotoGP, the 2007 250cc runner up, Andrea Dovizioso.
The connection of the Montiron team with Scot Kopron team (who make race Doviziosoin 250cc) made able this transfer.
The pugnacity, aggressiveness and bravery of Dovizioso are major assets for the learning season that waiting him.

Team Roberts (Michelin) :
Kenny Roberst Junior seems to ave take his retire but without official announcement... So his brother Kurtis take his place on a not so good machine.
The important information is the wish of the team to be back n 2008 with two riders and a new powered bike. Kenny Roberts senior decided to stop his collaboration with Honda, and some say that its new engine supplier could be Ilmor Engineering... but nothig was confirmed for the moment.

About www.motorcyclists-online.com English version:
At the beginning, in 2001, www.motorcyclists-online.com was an exclusive French Motorcycle website. Now, since September 2005, it has become bilingual: English speaking people are welcome !
We do believe, at www.motorcyclists-online.com, that linguistic boundaries are not a problem when we share the same passion for bikes.
We are currently working on translating all articles and contents, to finish the UK/US version. You will certainly notice some bugs or translation errors: please do not hesitate to advise us by e-mail, Private Message or by posting in the Forum. Your help is welcome !
For the moment, articles which haven’t been human translated are automatically machine translated, which I must confess is not really famous, but faster than human translators.
