Nakano with this contract is now taking the last seat available in MotoGP for 2008.
He also change of tyres supplier by leaving Michelin for Bridgestone.
Nakano siged a one year contract with Gresini and will ride his new bike from the day after the last GP of 2007, on november fourth in Valencia (Spain).
Shina Nakano, 30 years old, has now complete 148 GP with 21 podiums and 6 victories (all in 250cc). After he raced for Yamaha from 1998 to 2003, and Kawasaki (2004 to 2006) the Chiba native rode this year a Honda.
In MotoGP since 2001, Nakano made only a third position in Germany in 2001 (500cc), a third position in Japan in 2004, and a second position last year in Netherlands.
Its a good news for him who has this year a really bad season. First because the RC212V was a bad born bike at the start and after because, as he said, he was not able to be good with the Michelin Front tyre.
Fausto Gresini take the bet to put back Nakano on tyres that he knows and he helped to developp.
Fausto Gresini: “I’m happy to announce Shinya Nakano, that together with Alex De Angels will be the colour bearer of out team on a Honda RC212v with Bridgestone tyres.
Shinya is a rider with a great potential, so far expressed only in part.
We strongly believe in him as also Honda HRC and Bridgestone do.
We have signed with the Japanese rider a one year contract with an option.
We will start to prepare the new season immediately after the Valencia GP in an important session where our riders can start to get confidence with the Honda rc212v with Bridgestone tyres.
Shinya Nakano: “it’s my pleasure to work with the Honda Gresini Team. I know Fausto, he was a rider before becoming a Team Manager and he has worked very well with Honda HRC for many years. I will be pleased to learn something from the team and to work with my new team mate Alex de Angelis. I believe we can have a good season together. I also look forward to work with Bridgestone tyres as well, I have good memories with them”.
Currently 17th of the championship with 45 points, Nakano will be the team mate of Alex De Angelis next year. The rider from San Marino is currently third of the 250cc championship.
