The bike is sporting a retro paint-scheme designed to pay homage to Vermeulen’s mentor, and personal hero Barry Sheene. The livery was inspired by the Suzuki ‘XR14’ that the double Suzuki World Champion rode in the seventies. Vermeulen was joined by Barry’s son Freddie to uncover the bike in readiness for tomorrow’s first free practice session.

Vermeulen also revealed his retro style race suit and new helmet design, both of which are also based on Sheene’s iconic images from days gone by.

“I will have the new sensation of riding a bike in a different livery to my team-mate, but that is not going to improve the performance so we need to work hard right from the start and make sure that we can experience more of the good times that we have already had this season. This is a going to be a huge event this year as ticket sales are up so we are expecting a pretty crowded house at Phillip Island and we will be trying to make sure that we put on a good performance in front of my home fans.

I got a podium here last year and will be looking to at least repeat that this season!”

About www.motorcyclists-online.com English version:
At the beginning, in 2001, www.motorcyclists-online.com was an exclusive French Motorcycle website. Now, since September 2005, it has become bilingual: English speaking people are welcome !
We do believe, at www.motorcyclists-online.com, that linguistic boundaries are not a problem when we share the same passion for bikes.
We are currently working on translating all articles and contents, to finish the UK/US version. You will certainly notice some bugs or translation errors: please do not hesitate to advise us by e-mail, Private Message or by posting in the Forum. Your help is welcome !
For the moment, articles which haven’t been human translated are automatically machine translated, which I must confess is not really famous, but faster than human translators.
