Finland's Mika Kallio raced to his first 250cc victory of his career at the motorcycling Japanese Grand Prix here Sunday.
The 24-year-old, who has stepped up from the 125cc after finishing second overall in the class for two straight years, won in 48 minutes 28.585 seconds on a KTM, 4.893 seconds ahead of Italian Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso.

Mika Kallio said after the race : "By mid-race, I overtook Dovizioso and continued to push, but I was always followed very closely. There didn't seem to be any change to get away so I decided to just ride at my own rhythm. Then it started to drizzle again, which was disturbing, but I was able to keep my speed. I only noticed in the last lap that Dovizioso was the only one left behind me and the fact that he slowed made it easier in the end."

The second on the podium, and second at the championship, Andrea Dovizioso, took several important points to Jorge Lorenzo and said after the race :
“Today I hoped to race on dry conditions even if, for sure in these conditions, it is easer to make up for points on Lorenzo for us. Anyway, yesterday we had a really good set up and we were really fast that’s why I preferred the sunshine for today rather than the rain.
Unfortunately these are the situations in which we can recuperate more points.

Today we gained a lot of points and I’m really happy because this will help us a lot and if until now we didn’t lose hopes this will give us even more confidence.”

His team mate Yuki Takahashi was able to take the fourth position.

Spain's Hector Barbera on an Aprilia came in third 16.634 seconds further back. He said after the race : « I am happy beceuse my warm up was not so good, finaly i change my settings and I found back confidence. My bike was good and the race also despite the fog on my visor... But I manage to stay focused on my riding. The team was very good so now we are looking forward the next race, thanks to all my team and to Aprilia.

»

Points leader Jorge Lorenzo of Spain finished 11th on an Aprilia and his lead over nearest rival Dovizioso narrowed to 36 with three races to go.

About www.motorcyclists-online.com English version:
At the beginning, in 2001, www.motorcyclists-online.com was an exclusive French Motorcycle website. Now, since September 2005, it has become bilingual: English speaking people are welcome !
We do believe, at www.motorcyclists-online.com, that linguistic boundaries are not a problem when we share the same passion for bikes.
We are currently working on translating all articles and contents, to finish the UK/US version. You will certainly notice some bugs or translation errors: please do not hesitate to advise us by e-mail, Private Message or by posting in the Forum. Your help is welcome !
For the moment, articles which haven’t been human translated are automatically machine translated, which I must confess is not really famous, but faster than human translators.
