The italian is followed by Dani Pedrosa and championship leader Casey Stoner.

After four races dominated by Casey Stoner from begining to the end, MotoGP fans were expecting a pride wake up of the other MotoGP riders to at last see a real battle.
Sunday, on the Estoril race track, the battle finaly went on, like the last Catalunya GP, the result was between Rossi , Pedrosa and Stoner.
At the start no surprises, Casey Stoner made the hole shot ahead Dani Pedrosa, the poleman Nicky Hayden, Marco Melandri, John Hopkins and at last Valentino Rossi, third on the grid but who made a safe start as usual, before begining to take the way up front.
Soon a four riders group take the advbantage and go, but nonless a nice battle with Hopkins and especially Melandri. The real fight for the victory begun between Pedrosa Stoner and Rossi, Hayden was there too but a little bit behind.
After some laps, the three firsts positions was occuped by Pedrosa Rossi and Stoner, and the big fight between Pedrosa and Rossi could start. Until the last lap the two riders were very close, and at tw laps from the end Rossi could pass Pedrosa, and keep the lead to the finish line.
Behind Stoner and Hayden secure respectively third and fourth position followed by Marco Melandri and John Hopkins. The two spaniards Checa and Elias take seventh and eighth position. The top ten completed by Loris Capirossi and Colin Edwards.
Valentino Rossi : "First of all I want to dedicate this victory to Colin McRae, who sadly died yesterday. Colin is one of my idols from when I was very young and it's because of him that I have my passion for rally. It's a very sad day for motorsport and I am glad that I could win for him today. This is a very important victory for us in every way, it's the fourth one of the year so the numbers are starting to look a little bit better, and it's a great, great emotion to win again after so long without even a podium. Today my Yamaha and my tyres worked very well. Our new engine is better and today I was able to keep in the slipstream of the Honda and the Ducati on the straight, and even to go alongside them at some points, so this is ...
