To end this BMT, the saturday session was not pepperless... Riders played it very tightly during the two last legs and just pushed as hard as possible, giving their last strengh in the battle on the Spa-Francorchamps race track. For this first BMT, the show and the race were at a very high level and a great enjoyment shared by both riders and spectators.
Despite a cloudy sky, the las day was rainless and the last legs could take place on dry roads... a good thing, because the layout was very fast. During the 6th leg of Besse Bodieux, Fred Lejeune dominated again, with the scratch, and more of two seconds faster than Fred Fiorentino. After a half hour break to lunch in the picturesque town of Houffalize, riders starts the last leg on road, « the crazyest of the rallye » said our experts... Christian Haquin experienced that by crashing in a spectacular slide ended under the safety rails, result an ankle injuried and a broken sacrum.
Didier de Radiguès, Lejeune-motorsport team rider, won this leg with a average speed of 118,5 km/h!!! Fred Lejeune, probably very tired accumulated a lot of little mistakes, which made him take a 20 seconds penalty, giving the possibility to Wilfried Tallone to win.
Before the last fight on the Spa-Francorchamps Track, Fred Leujeune had only 8 seconds of advance on Tallone... So the suspense could not be bigger, all was possible. On the whole new race track of Spa-Francorchamps, Jehan D'Orgeix fully dominated with a amount of 11seconds, permitting him to take the third position of the IRC. Just behind Wilfried Tallone made all he could to take the lead but 9 tenth made the difference and the french rider take the second position.
Anyway, Frédéric Lejeune made honor to the Belgians spectators, and to his brother Eric who will be for sure in France for the Dark Dog Tour beside Frédéric. Also congratulations to the great and regular performances of Patrick Bournisien for his first position in Promotion class with his Triumph Speed Triple and his fifth position in the overall standings, followed in Promotion Class by Michel Bonneau and ...
