World Superbike VS MotoGP : Muddy Future
Printable Version Written: 02/04/2007 : 11:12. Read 20739 times (12/day).
On one side, a growing championship, with many bikes and many sponsors. On the other side, THE motorbike championship, but with less riders, less sponsors, and who is losing his credibility . If you add to that, some rumors and under table dialogs of some people in WSBK who want to have some adapted rules... You obtain a little time bomb who could make big « collateral » damages in the motorcycle competition world.

First the MotoGP world Championship, it is in a constant lack of sponsors.
We know that the Ilmor MotoGP team retired because they had not found sponsors, and we also know that the Team Roberts is financially OK untill Laguna Seca, they have not the money to race frther for the moment.
The DORNA has a great meeting to talk about that but solutions are hard to find. Most of all if the rules change every years...

Now the WSBK championship, very competitive, full fill of very talented riders and where the sponsors a almost fighting to be present.

Also, almost all the major motorcycle manufacturers are represented.
The WSBK is better and better and celebrate its 20th birthday yesterday. More tracks are in the championship and that makes him one of the best in the world.

But the storm is coming, first with the possible leaving of one of the best rider of WSBK, James Toseland.

The Storm mostly with the rumor that Ten Kate could leave the championship with him and go in MotoGP with him.
And the clap of thunder came this week end with the words of Francis Batta, manager of Alstare Suzuki Corona Exrtra Team.
He said that he could also go in MotoGP with his team.
The reason, the new rules about the displacement allowed to the Twin cylinders (Maximum 1200cc). The japanese manufacturers are not very happy about that and Batta, too late for them and too detrimental also.
And Batta said that the Japanese manufacturers could leave the championship if the new rule was adopted for 2008...

This is a bad « blackmail » for the WSBK, this championship needs more scale and this affair could be a terrible knock for this championship.

But for MotoGP it is helpful, to see two teams coming on the grid would be very good...

Is 2007 a key season...? 2008 seasons will be for sure very different.
The MotoGP championship have all to win, but the WSBK have all to lose...

About www.motorcyclists-online.com English version:
At the beginning, in 2001, www.motorcyclists-online.com was an exclusive French Motorcycle website. Now, since September 2005, it has become bilingual: English speaking people are welcome !
We do believe, at www.motorcyclists-online.com, that linguistic boundaries are not a problem when we share the same passion for bikes.
We are currently working on translating all articles and contents, to finish the UK/US version. You will certainly notice some bugs or translation errors: please do not hesitate to advise us by e-mail, Private Message or by posting in the Forum. Your help is welcome !
For the moment, articles which haven’t been human translated are automatically machine translated, which I must confess is not really famous, but faster than human translators.
