July Editorial : If Darwin was seeing that!
Printable Version Written: 03/07/2007 : 16:04. Read 24657 times (15/day).
The Evolution theory by Darwin is : « ....each individual from a population are different from each others. Some of them are better adapted to their environment than other and have, for that reason, better chances to survive and to breed. These characteristics are gave to the next generation, so generation after generation becomes dominating in the population.... » The direct relation with the motorcycle world does not seem obvious, but there is many factors that closing us with te see Iguana from Galápagos...

July Editorial : If Darwin was seeing that!2007-07-03

The Evolution that we are talking about was kind of fast. If nature made millions of years before make this or this organism adapted to his environment, it just took 9 tiny years to see muting a part (always growing) of the motorcycle riders (with big bore licence).
Just one statistic : 350%.
This is the rate of bikers who now ride a scooter since 1998 only! At the same time, the whole market « just » grown by 33%!

The qualificative of « Revolution » would be better. But how are we arrived at this point?
What are the causes of such a mutation and what are the consequences on the national rads?
First we have to be precise and tell that this phenomenon is mostly Urban, and that is in the big cities that what I call « scootriders » (scooter rider with big bore riding licence). The reasons of such a behavioural change are all reunited in town and clearly visible.
When the scooter was just a 125cc, without good brakes and chassis, the motorcycle rider paraded with delight his total disdain for this kind of machine. But quickly, the bore grew in 250cc, 400, 500, 650, 800, and maybe soon 1000 as some predicting it for the next bike show.
At the same time, good parts of traditional bikes were added, Aluimnium Chassis, hydrolic front fork, adjustable suspensions and ABS to just name a few, become common to all scooters.
More, manufacturers were very smart by adding to some of their models some very special motorcycle specificities like sequential gear box (Suzuki Burgman 650 or Honda Forza 250).
So begun to coma in the biker mind the idea that to not destruct his left shoe with the gear selector, and also his hand on the same side for the clutch lever, would be kind of comfortable...
Firsts who jumped the step, tired to hear jokes and jokes from their motorcycle rider friends said that the boot under the seat allowed them to not share with us their helmet and more, to make some shopping... But traditional motorcycle rider answer that a Top Case exists...
But the story became more complicated for motorcycle riders when they started to talk about the protection when it rains, and the basic maintenance (no chain tension to check, no chain lube...) and the easyness to ride it. Just get on it or get off is a perfect exemple without the need to start the engine.
With those arguments totaly irrefutable, the most undecided motorcycle riders finished their mutation and come beside their fathers to find more and more followers.

If the facts are clear and without doubts for the causes, it is much more moderated and less defensible about the consequences.
Indeed, the serenity that is supposed to came out of a vehicle less stressing and easier as such, become quickly for many, a feeling of impunity, and no limit contol and more for the most optimistics, kind of invincibility! The behaviour of some guys on their big bore scooter begining to be the same as the behaviour of teenagers « 50cc-rised ».
The Slalom become the only way to go forward, the Jet helmet the only accessorie worn, a the place where before, the usual biker had an armor...
The motorcycle rider status seeming like disappeared with the automatic horse. Exit the solidarity, the « hi », and this feeling to be a part something like before...
Although, car drivers, also users of the public roads, and those who make the laws, and also policeman, face to face with this « irresponsable » behaviour of the most mental of them, continue the amalgam motorcycle/scooter with this time the aegument that they are both owner of the big bore licence and so, they are less (no) forgivable.
So, from thiat point, and ahead such a potential customers market, manufacturers who iniytially take the best of the bike to give it to the scooter make the opposite to court those who are not ready to jump to the dark side... Now motorcycles are created with scooters assets (Yamaa FJR1300 AS, Aprilia 850 Mana and Honda DN01...).
Its a brand new world...

To end, I will send you one more time to the evolution theory by Darwin where it is said that chances to survive and to breed are better for a human being (or not human) adapted to his environment. I will step up the breed side of the « scootrider » (even if the image is funny) to come to the survival and tell them : Darwin gives you right without any doubtsµ. But remember that all evolution is under an unavoidable compensation : the natural selection, so liked by our Admin!

Scooterly yours.

Fastfreddy

Jezbo1 (04-07-2007): This article is just plain $h1te! Stick to motorbikes - you are not qualified to write on the THEORY of evolution which is just more $h1te! You wrote nothing of any value re., bikes so your article rated a '0' vote!

About www.motorcyclists-online.com English version:
At the beginning, in 2001, www.motorcyclists-online.com was an exclusive French Motorcycle website. Now, since September 2005, it has become bilingual: English speaking people are welcome !
We do believe, at www.motorcyclists-online.com, that linguistic boundaries are not a problem when we share the same passion for bikes.
We are currently working on translating all articles and contents, to finish the UK/US version. You will certainly notice some bugs or translation errors: please do not hesitate to advise us by e-mail, Private Message or by posting in the Forum. Your help is welcome !
For the moment, articles which haven’t been human translated are automatically machine translated, which I must confess is not really famous, but faster than human translators.
