Top 5 of countries :
Every stastistics who will follow count all motorcycles (125cc and more). Italy is the winner, and stays, without surprises, the most bigger buyer of motorcycles in Europe with 446 767 units in 2006. A very good performance when we look and the second bigger buyer, Spain, with « only » 258 355 motorcycles. Almost half from Italy figure. Spain take the second position to France in 2005. France finishes the year with 229 364 bikes sold. But this number puts France far away ahead from the fourth bigger buyer, Germany which sold 165 840 motorcycles, Germany far away ahead UK which sold 109 527 units. The gap between the first and the fifth is just huge. And the idea of « Latina Motorcycle culture » now takes a real sens. In fact, talking about motorcycle culture, is not so right. In Italy the first motorcycle with 7595 units sales is the Suzuki GSR 600, and it is only in 9th position, the firsts height are only scooters!! At the opposite, in Germany the first scooter is only 19th with 1687 sales (Piaggio Vespa GTS 250). So that obviously shows us the real difference of the « two wheels spirit » between the two countries.
So the podiums by countries are (125cc and more motorcycles) :
Italy : 1) Suzuki GSR 600 : 7595 2) Honda Hornet 600 : 7580 3) Yamaha FZ6 N and S : 6655 A lot of mid sized roadster. The first Supersport bike is in 7th pôsition (4324 units), it is the Yamaha R6 but it is behind the BMW R 1200 GS (4535 units).
Spain : 1) Yamaha 600 FZ6 N : 6866 2) Suzuki GSR 600 : 4953 3) Yamaha 600 R6 : 3893 Honda 600 CBR and Suzuki GSXR 600 follow on 4 and 5th position, and confim that Spain is likely more on Sporty bikes. The first trail bike is 7th, BMW F650 GS (1353 units).
France : 1) Kawasaki Z 750 N and S : 6481 2) Kawasaki Er6 N and F : 5692 3) Suzuki Bandit 650 N and S: 5602 French paricularity which puts Kawasaki on the firsts steps of the podium. No any other country of the top five puts Kawasaki better than the 4th Position (Italy, ER6).
Germany : 1) Bmw R 1200 GS : 6364 2) Honda CBF 1000 : 4807 3) Honda CBF 600 N and S : 3845 The picture that we have of the German motorcyclist liking tourer bikes and GT, in 5th position the BMW R1200 RT with 2642 units sold. The first Supersport in Germany is the Kawasaki ZX 10 R with 2343 units, in the 7th position.
United-Kingdom : 1) Honda CBR 1000 : 2067 2) Suzuki GSXR 600 : 1970 3) Suzuki GSXR 750 : 1953 The Brittons more than the Spaniards love the sporty and full faired bikes, after the podium follow the Suzuki GSXR 1000 and the Yamaha R6 respectively sold to 1934 and 1926 units. We have to look at the seventh position to find another style of bike, but again a BMW, the R 1200 GS with 1468 units.
