| | | EICMA 2006: Husqvarna Dual Purpose models | Written: 17/11/2006 : 14:02. Read 37649 times (20/day). | The 2007 versions of the Husqvarna Dual Purpose models WRE 125 and TE 610 IE have been completely redesigned both in appearance and technical content.
With the Dual range, Husqvarna aims at making machines that are easy to use not only both off-road and for daily commuting but also for long-distance journeys. Both the WRE 125 and TE 610 IE have in fact won many motorcycle rallies and international events like the Motorally and the Raid Marathon. In fact this year, the new TE 610 IE came home with first prize in the Marathon class that is reserved for production machines.
They are now available in Red and White colour schemes.

WRE 125 The WR 125 has undergone a face lift with plastic bodywork parts. The machine now resembles the Centennial and the four-stroke models with its new red and white colour scheme. The 125 engine has been tuned to improve pick-up and to improve output in the low to mid range power band. The newest item however is the integrated ECS Electronic Carburetion System that administers exactly the right amount of fuel (both the air/petrol and oil mix) developed in collaboration with Dell’Orto. The control unit also governs the ignition system. While keeping costs under control and sales prices competitive, this brings the two-stroke 125 engine to Euro 3 standards yet maintains all the advantages that two-stroke engines offer: lightness, performance and low running costs. the suspension has been up-dated with Marzocchi forks and newly calibrated Sachs shock absorbers. The pump for the rear brakes now has an integrated oil reservoir. All Enduro and dual purpose models now come supplied with hand guards for optional fitting. The new digital instrument panel provides all the information necessary even for use in rallies. The display has a stop watch, trip-meter and an elapsed and total mileage indicator. Again on the subject of rallies, the headlamp is now more powerful thus offering increased safety for both on and off-road use.

HUSQVARNA TE 610 IE The Husqvarna TE 610IE lines up with the WRE 125. This new model has been designed to fill a gap in a particularly interesting sector of the motorcycle market – that of the 600 cc four-stroke, single cylinder, off-road machine. Based on the SM 610, the new Husqvarna TE 610IE benefits from having many parts in common with other four-stroke, racing Enduro Husqvarnas. With the new TE 610IE, Husqvarna intends to widen its range to include those less competition-minded riders who use their bikes every day and need more comfort and practicality but want to combine this with the thrill of owning a race bike. The chassis has been tuned to cope with daily road use but the machine is still powered an engine who supports low-medium rev band. The new version has had some highly significant modifications to the cylinder and head as well as now being fitted with a new electronic injection system that conforms to Euro 3 standards.
The technology The 610 comes in the red/white livery of the Husqvarna racing team and looks like the racing TE but with a totally new customised style. The 12.5 litre tank is fitted with a locking cap The new digital instrumentation displays speed, time, mileage, rpm and has a trip-meter as well as the normal warning lights (indicators, full beam, dipped beam, service due etc.). The handlebars and controls are very much along the same lines as the TE racing version. Although using the traditional round tubes, the chassis has been stiffened and strengthened by modifying the rake and by using a more wrap-round tubular cradle. The rear arm is the same as used on the TE 450/510 models and has a new Sachs shock absorber with compression and rebound adjustment using a redesigned link. At the front is a pair of Marzocchi 45 mm inverted forks with adjustable compression and rebound damping. The Brembo brakes feature a floating 4 caliper 260 mm front disc while rear braking is left to a 220 mm disc. In effect, the suspension and brakes are the same as on the TE with softer but fully adjustable settings. The TE 610 IE was also designed to allow for comfortably carrying a pillion passenger. The saddle has different density padding and anti-slip footrests. Thanks to special clips fitted to the rear chassis and mudguard, special side panniers can be fitted as an optional extra. The chassis can be fitted with a main stand that is available as an optional extra. The rear mudguard has a new separate number plate carrier with an independent illumination light. A balancing counter-shaft is fitted to the 610 engine to off-set the vibration one would normally expect with a large single cylinder unit. Lubrication is by means of twin trochoidal-type pumps. One pump supplies oil to the head and crankshaft, while the second pump draws oil from the crankcase and supplies it to the gearbox. Breathing is via a 4 valve, single overhead cam and rocker arm system with variable valve springs and a new timing chain tensioner has been introduced to reduce noise. The 610 TE IE now has an electronic injection system that was developed in collaboration with Mikuni. The exhaust system on the four-stroke single cylinder engine has a “closed loop” lambda probe. The catalyser has been redesigned and optimised to meet Euro 3 requirements. The engine now features a 42 mm throttle body with the starter command on the handlebars and there is also now a 300 Kpa Mitsubishi “twin jet” fuel injector fitted to the throttle. The pressure regulator (3 Bar) regulates any return of excess fuel to the tank and the MAQS (Modularised Air Quantity Sensor) consists of air temperature, mapping and TPS sensors (Throttle Position Sensor). The Kokusan 360W three-phase ignition flywheel is also new. The water temperature sensor is positioned on the head. The injection ECU processes signals and governs the operation of the solenoid-operated valve fitted to the right hand side of the radiator. New components include the rugged polyethylene petrol tank with a 40l/h pump; the non-return fuel circuit has quick-fit connections. Maximum output has been increased to 39 Kw (about 54 CV) at 7.000 rpm at the crankshaft.
