THE ENGINE IS “CLEANER” WITH EURO 3
From the F41000S to the F41000R ’06, there has been a significant overhaul made to the engines.
MV Agusta engineers paid particular attention to creating a new engine unit that differs from previous versions.

From the F41000R ’06 to the’07, the 4 cylinder engine “only” needed technical modifications to meet the new European emission standards with significant changes made to the fuel supply system. Apart from the Magneti Marelli 5SM ECU that was already fitted to the’06 model, a lambda probe was fitted to the exhaust system immediately before the catalyser.

For this reason, the exhaust system is now a one-piece system as opposed to the original three-piece unit. The engine has also been fitted with a new secondary air intake system. This unit looks after optimising carburetion in line with triggering the catalyser and making the bike more rideable especially when the throttle is feathered at speeds of up to 120 kph (75 mph).

The whole system is built into a new profile rocker box cover made from magnesium instead of aluminium.
The Magneti Marelli 5SM ECU manages the EBS system (Engine Brake System) that is fitted to MV Agusta engines for controlling torque under deceleration: it allows cylinder N°2 to produce torque even under deceleration (when the feed throttles are closed): the advantage in terms of engine braking at high and medium engine speeds is self-evident.

THE FRAME
The F4 1000R frame follows the lines of the original one on the “old” F41000S and is still unique today in being the only frame in the four-cylinder production category to be made from
chrome-molybdenum steel tubing. This solution offers considerable advantages in terms of compactness, mechanical access and torsional rigidity.

The frames are built in their entirety at the MV Agusta plant in Morazzone. The sculpted single swinging arm was created by the CRC engineers.
The steering angle now lies at 24.5° and the steering head has been shifted forward by 103.8 mm to further improve handling.

THE SUSPENSION
The F41000R marks the debut of Marzocchi USD Ø50 mm R.A.C. (Road Advanced Component) forks. These forks are the most prestigious item made by the Bolognese factory.

They feature a multi-adjustable unit (13 compression settings and 32 for rebound) fitted with carbon nitride treated uprights designed for improved slide characteristics. The looks also differ in the anodised stays that add to the individuality of this specific model. The rear suspension uses both the traditional layout and the Sachs Racing shock absorber with double compression calibration (high-medium speed) and sophisticated hydraulic control of pre-load spring.

To complete the picture, the R also has a transversally fitted Ohlins steering damper anchored to the frame to provide symmetrical working conditions.

THE BRAKES
The MV Agusta F41000R heralds the introduction of a Brembo bsystem featuring radial P4/34 calipers. This monoblock braking system, derived from competition Superbike and Moto GP machinery has a strut to provide increased rigidity mounted on radaptors made exclusively for MV Agusta.

The enlarged Ø 320mmdiscs with steel braking area and aluminium flange are also new.
The rear brake remains an unchanged four-piston (opposed) caliper unit acting on a 210 mm disc. The Nissin-designed front brake and clutch levers are exclusive to MV Agusta and can be micrometrically adjusted.
The Brembo forged aluminium wheels with Y spokes measure 3.50” x 17” at the front and 6.00” x 17” at the rear. Tyare 120/70 ZR 17 up front with 190/55/17 at the rear.

About www.motorcyclists-online.com English version:
At the beginning, in 2001, www.motorcyclists-online.com was an exclusive French Motorcycle website. Now, since September 2005, it has become bilingual: English speaking people are welcome !
We do believe, at www.motorcyclists-online.com, that linguistic boundaries are not a problem when we share the same passion for bikes.
We are currently working on translating all articles and contents, to finish the UK/US version. You will certainly notice some bugs or translation errors: please do not hesitate to advise us by e-mail, Private Message or by posting in the Forum. Your help is welcome !
For the moment, articles which haven’t been human translated are automatically machine translated, which I must confess is not really famous, but faster than human translators.
