Road Test : 2007 Honda CB600F Hornet launch-Hornet is back, armed to the teeth! (2007-02-14)

Lean, mean and scanning the scene for new conquests, the startling new 2007 CB600F Hornet stands the mid-displacement Performance Naked class on its head with riveting new looks, blistering new performance and an always thrilling blast of enjoyment. From nose to tail, every line and every component is totally new and totally geared to delivering an electrifying jolt of riding excitement.

For those who’ll settle for nothing less than the coolest, most aggressive set of wheels they can throw a leg over, the new Hornet delivers up the goods with lighter construction, a hotter power-to-weight ratio, quicker, more responsive handling and a defiant look of pure ferocity. So let it be known: The original streetfighter is back on the streets.
A close blood cousin of the dynamic new 2007 CBR600RR, the new CB600F delivers a more broadly accessible, ‘Multi-Purpose’ balance of performance and riding ease.

Its RR-based engine produces a distinctive blend of high-revving power and midrange punch in keeping with the Hornet’s mean streetfighter sensibilities. Further, carefully calculated reductions in weight and efforts made to centralise mass—as dynamically illustrated by its new low-mount exhaust system—pay off in both sharper, more responsive handling and a maximised power-to-weight ratio.

All this and more makes the new 2007 CB600F Hornet the hottest performing and quickest handling middleweight Performance Naked on the streets of Europe.

The new Hornet’s list of hard-hitting new features reads like a high-octane menu for total road domination.

New Styling Features
• A stunning new streetfighter look, with slimmer lines and lighter, more aggressive form.
• New 19-litre fuel tank contains fuel pump but still offers 1.5-litre larger capacity than earlier model.
• Uniquely styled dual-bulb headlight features low beam positioned over high beam behind a protruding polycarbonate lens.
• Ultra-slim seat and tail cowl design minimises inertial weight.
• Slim LED taillight integrated into tail cowl.

Smoked lens turn indicators with amber bulbs.
• Fully electronic instrument panel with a new hard-edged mechanical look.

New Performance Features
• Lighter, more compact and higher-revving new fuel-injected 600cc engine developed alongside the all-new 2007 CBR600RR, but tuned for stronger low-to-midrange torque and quicker midrange acceleration.
• New low-slung exhaust system positioned under the engine for enhanced mass centralisation and sharper handling, as well as a unique exhaust note.
• New oxygen-sensing catalytic converter system reduces harmful exhaust emissions to well within strict EURO-3 regulations.

New Handling Features
• Newly developed gravity die-cast (GDC) aluminium Mono-Backbone frame for lighter weight and sharper handling.
• Stout and compliant 41mm inverted HMAS cartridge-type front fork.
• New tapered box-section aluminium swingarm with Monoshock rear suspension.
• Lightweight, newly designed five-spoke aluminium alloy wheels.
• Standard version mounts 296mm dual-piston calliper front brakes and compact single piston calliper rear brake.
• Combined-ABS version features three-piston front callipers for the ultimate in sports riding braking control.

Accessory Features
• HISS immobiliser security system.

About www.motorcyclists-online.com English version:
At the beginning, in 2001, www.motorcyclists-online.com was an exclusive French Motorcycle website. Now, since September 2005, it has become bilingual: English speaking people are welcome !
We do believe, at www.motorcyclists-online.com, that linguistic boundaries are not a problem when we share the same passion for bikes.
We are currently working on translating all articles and contents, to finish the UK/US version. You will certainly notice some bugs or translation errors: please do not hesitate to advise us by e-mail, Private Message or by posting in the Forum. Your help is welcome !
For the moment, articles which haven’t been human translated are automatically machine translated, which I must confess is not really famous, but faster than human translators.
