The KLX450R is directly based on the principal elements of the KX450F, adapted for enduro. To transform this motor bike into an enduro competitions winner, its liquid cooled 449cc engine has been tweaked to offer more torque at low revs and its transmission is now a wide-ratio 5 speed gearbox. There is of course an electric starter.
The result? Lot of torque, an excellent motricity and an instantaneous throttle response espacially at low revs. The bike is now more reliable and robust, so that the pilot and the bike can cross together the finish line.
Just like its engine, the low weight aluminium frame is inspired from the KX. Thanks to its lightness and promptness, the KLX450R can easily cut through path on narrow tracks or operate with ease between rocks and trees. The KLX450R has the same suspension as the KX450F. Whereas on the KX, the adjustments aim at optimizing attack / jump performance, those of the KLX emphasize on lightness and easy control.
For racing, the KLR450R gets petal break discs, an ultra light digital dashboard, a led rear light and a 8 liters plastic fuel tank of 8 liters. Endurists now have the same engine and same chassis as the KX450F, but on a machine entirely dedicated to their favorite discipline, Enduro.
449cc Liquid-cooled, Four-stroke Single with four valves improved low and mid-range power delivery and linear power curve. Low-friction coating on piston skirt. Revised cam lift and timing boost low- and mid-range torque Camshaft lobes and tappets feature a soft-nitride surface treatment for long wear and high-rpm reliability. Hand-finished surfaces of the polished intake ports. Lightweight 36mm titanium intake valves and aluminum valve; 30mm steel exhaust valves replace the KX’s 31mm titanium units. Double valve springs. Screw-type automatic cam chain tensioner with oil pressure spring. Flywheel mass is double that of the KX450F, crankshaft, rotor mass centralization, oil circulation, and ignition timing have been optimized. Crankshaft and connecting rod are sintered for additional rigidity.
Exhaust Large 41mm titanium exhaust header, tapered exhaust pipe, titanium exhaust pipe heat shield . The silencer uses long-fiber packing for lower maintenance.
Cooling High-capacity Denso radiators deliver superior cooling efficiency. A reservoir tank is fitted to the radiator, for efficient cooling during long enduros. Slim radiators feature tightly packed cores and fins designed to enhanced heat dispersion, and the KLX radiator shroud design is optimised for a seated position, compared to the KX shrouds.
Electric Starting High-capacity compact starter motor; lightweight battery is located beneath the seat and behind the airbox for optimum mass centralization There is also a starters and an auto-decompression system
