Aprilia RS 750 triple- Aprilia attacks the middleweight segment
Printable Version Written: 15/05/2006 : 10:58. Read 23948 times (12/day).
Aprilia boss Leo Mercanti recently stated that Aprilia will not make a CBR/ZX/R6/GSX-R middleweight. Instead Aprilia will purpose build a middleweight from scratch much in the same way as BMW did with F800S.

Aprilia will continue spending the 100 million Euro investments in developing new models with in-house engineered engines. Right now Aprilia has got a new 750 cc engine (we talked about it in this article) on the test bench at the Noale factory. These are endurance tests and as soon as these tests are completed satisfactory the engine is ready to be put into a brand new lightweight chassis that will be equally ground braking as the new engine.

Mercanti has also stated in one of the many Aprilia press conferences this year that Aprilia will not only build V-twin engines. Aprilia will build everything from singles, twins, triples to fours (V4). We believe that the new 750 will be a triple to make it stand out in the fairly bland world of middleweights. BMW chose parallel twin and modern design to make the brilliant F800S stand out. With a 750cc triple Aprilia hopes to do the same and the new RS 750 will be a rider’s bike that can do anything reasonably well. Knowing Aprilia’s racing heritage the new 750 will be just as much a sportsbike as a multi purpose tourer with the best chassis, suspension and brake components as standard.

As far as power goes it could be anything between 85bhp-110bhp in such a motorcycle.

Our Aprilia spokesperson suggested this: “The chassis configuration that the engine (750 & 1200) would use may be of a type that doesn't currently exist, e.g. a superlight 750 multi purpose bike?”

Words: Tor Sagen /CG: Robert O’Brien (it was a bloody difficult one this and hard work!)

About www.motorcyclists-online.com English version:
At the beginning, in 2001, www.motorcyclists-online.com was an exclusive French Motorcycle website. Now, since September 2005, it has become bilingual: English speaking people are welcome !
We do believe, at www.motorcyclists-online.com, that linguistic boundaries are not a problem when we share the same passion for bikes.
We are currently working on translating all articles and contents, to finish the UK/US version. You will certainly notice some bugs or translation errors: please do not hesitate to advise us by e-mail, Private Message or by posting in the Forum. Your help is welcome !
For the moment, articles which haven’t been human translated are automatically machine translated, which I must confess is not really famous, but faster than human translators.
