If the 2006 version of the ZX10R is fully modified, it is because she wants to rule the world not only on track, but also on the road ! Roughly speaking, what is the new ZX10R : - Improved power curve - Improved aerodynamics - Less weight - And a radical design !
There is no power increase, but the very new fuel injection system (43mm throttle bodies, dual valve, ultra-fine atomising injectors) gives a noticeable boost in mid-range power. The power curve is more linear. A heavier flywheel, the high-speed generator moved to the end of the crankshaft, gear ratios adjustments and ignition mappings tweaks result in a smoother engine response. The oil radiator is lighter, and as users asked, slipper clutch and petal shape brake discs are back on this model.
The gravity point is slightly raised, which required some engine work: the cylinder bank angle has been reduced from 20° to 23°, the ACG moved from behind the cylinders to the crankshaft end, and the starter clutch moved from the left to the right side cover, while the starter is located behind the cylinders.
The new frame has new castings in the steering head area and uses rigid engine mounts. The wheelbase remains unchanged. The swingarm is longer with an elevated axis, and the rear tire is now a 195/50-17 (190/50 on the previous model). All has been thought to pass the power to the road by preserving the maximum of agility.
Under-seat exhaust, reshaped rear seat cowl and new fairing improve the aerodynamic performance.
So: improved engine, lighter bike... Guess what? This is a new ground missile !
